Calico by Lori Holt for Riley Blake

Lori Holt has spent years building a small-print, homey, country-aesthetic catalog that fits the way many quilters actually live and sew. Calico, her line with Riley Blake, is her take on the classic small-floral and small-geometric prints that grandma's scrap bag was full of, reworked in a fresh palette and printed on Riley Blake's reliable quilting cotton.

The prints in the collection move across the range you would expect from a Lori Holt calico: little chicks and meadow florals in tea-rose and beet-red, schoolhouse reds and heirloom plums, plaid lettuces, and the gentle off-cream of Frosting. They sit nicely as a focal print in a small project, as a sashing or border on a medallion quilt, or as the every-block backbone of a scrappy patchwork.

Frequently asked questions about our Calico by Lori Holt for Riley Blake

What does “calico” mean in this collection?

Calico is the old name for the small-floral and small-geometric prints that filled scrap bags and feed sacks. Lori Holt's Calico line keeps that small-print sensibility but reworks the palette and motifs for a modern quilter, printed on Riley Blake's reliable quilting cotton.

What projects suit these prints best?

They sit nicely as a focal print in a small project, as a sashing or border on a medallion quilt, or as the every-block backbone of a scrappy patchwork. The tea-rose and beet-red florals are particularly good for cheater-cloth style projects and small handwork.
