According to Christian legends, donkeys originally had unmarked hides, but after Palm Sunday, when Jesus rode into Jerusalem on the back of a kind donkey, they all received the mark of the cross on their back as a reminder of their service.

The details: Each ornament is made the old fashion way using molten glass mouth-blown into carved molds. Then, a hot solution of liquid silver is poured inside the mold. Next, they are each hand painted.
