This organizer is skillfully made using woven banana plant stalks and wrapped with raffia from the raffia palm. The process of making these baskets is sustainable. Each time a stalk is cut it encourages new growth in the plant. These baskets are made in Uganda. They require approximately two days to weave from start to finish.
I love this project because it allows you to connect with the weaver personally. Each basket comes with a unique identification number which allows you to read about the weaver, write him/her a letter, and follow the entire process of making your product. You can even learn how the funds from your purchase are being used. Not only are these baskets beautiful but your purchase also make a difference in the lives of the weavers, their families, and their village. They are sustainably made and produced in fair trade conditions.
